One of the most uniquely modified Saxos in the country belongs to Col, aka Col_VTR on our forum. It began as a standard Saxo VTR and has gone through a series of amazing changes to become the floor scraping smoothed out show car that truly is one of a kind. Pictured here in it’s current form outside the lockup from which the car was originally bought, the modifying began 15 minutes after Col got it home.

The first mod was to simply mesh the grill.

But it wasn’t long before the alloys and lights were changed, and a custom exhaust was fitted.

Things really took off when the car was kitted and re-sprayed in Rage Bondi Beach flip.

Some major work was then needed to squeeze 18” rims under the arches.

Most people would have been happy at that, but Col soon took things even further. A few more trips to SBS for some major re-working have resulted in the car we see today. Why does he do it? Maybe there is a clue on the number plate!

The first thing you notice about the car is the huge 18” Chrome Vault Rims. Not many cars suit rims as blinging as these. The car has been dropped on -60mm GMC Springs at front.

And the rear torsion bar has been adjusted to match. The 7.5 inch wide wheels fill the 3 inch flared arches with the help of some spacers.

The custom arches are smoothed into the modified CCM sideskirts and the side repeaters have been removed for an even smoother look.

At the front, the meshed bumper meets a front splitter from a Fiat Brava. There is not a lot of room between the splitter and the tarmac.

The bumpstrips have been removed and the car has been entirely de-locked, de-handled and de-badged. The mirrors have also been customised.

At the back, two 5.5” Slash Cut exhaust pipes poke out through the smoothed in Street Specials rear bumper. The Magnex de-cat gives the exhaust note a satisfyingly low rumble.

The extended smoothed badboy tailgate covers the smoked rear light clusters. The rear wiper and aerial have been removed to make the back end as smooth as possible.

The engine is the standard 1.6 VTR, fitted with a Pipercross induction kit, a chrome rocker cover and a chrome exhaust manifold cover.

The colour is now a blend of five different 7 colour Rage flip paints, some Sikkens Chromoflair thrown in too. This is sprayed over a Rage blue/gold flip base coat. The overall effect is stunning, and adds to the unique nature of the car. Even the Dimma fuel cap is colour coded.

The badboy vented bonnet has been replaced with a standard one which better suits the Spectraflair Rage paint in the middle of the bonnet and roof. This paint produces a spectacular rainbow effect under direct light.

ICE consists of a Kenwood kvt-m700 one off head until up front, Pioneer TS-E6995 6x9s fitted to the doors and passenger compartment, Pioneer TS-C1300R Components and a set of tweeters mounted up beside the wing mirrors. The boot install consists of an Alpine V12 MRV-757 and an Alpine V12 MRV-307 amp to provide power, and a 12” Kenwood sub in a custom enclosure. Mounted next to the sub is a PS2 which is connected up to the screen on the Kenwood head unit in the front of the car.

The interior has been refitted with a pair or Corbeau RS2 recliners re-trimmed in black leather and blue Alcantara. A lot of the interior plastic has also seen a blue respray.

The standard steering wheel has been replaced by a tiny OMP wheel and the gear nob has been replaced by one from Momo.

The rear seats and door cards had been re-trimmed in the same in black leather and blue Alcantara.

A light tint has been applied to all the windows and some custom Saxo mats have been dropped into the foot wells to complete the interior.

This car has attracted a lot of attention from magazines, and has already been featured in Fast and Modified. It is soon to also appear in FastCar magazine.

So what’s next? Well, a lot of people think the car doesn’t look right without a spoiler, but as Col demonstrated in the above pic, it doesn’t look right with one so that’s something that wont change. A single wiper conversion is coming soon to tidy up the front of the car as it will neatly park behind the bonnet. Other than that the only plans are for a total blue Alcantara interior and maybe a move up to 19” rims with some major re-working of the arches. But knowing the history of this car, it wouldn’t be surprising if some more radical changes were just around the corner.
