CWC Summer Cruise (CWC18)

CWC finally returned to our favourite location at Devonshire Walk Car Park (Bitts Park), known to locals as Carlisle Castle Car Park.  With Ten Of The Best 6 the next morning we decided to start the Cruise at an earlier time of 7.30pm but with most convoys arriving just after 8pm it was a slow start.  The quiet car park didn't last long and soon the car park was nearly full, with around 350 cars turning up to show off their modified beasts, ICE installs and with a good turnout of Old Skool cars joining us there was something for everyone to enjoy.

People travelled from as far as the North East, Scotland, Lancaster as well as plenty of Cumbrian cars showing their support.  We were joined by Bassmechanix who made a great entrance to the car park, setting off dozens of car alarms with their Bass install as they arrived.

We advertised our 18th Cruise in the local papers and on local radio, with an aim to raise a substantial amount of money for the Great North Air Ambulance, our newspaper articles can be found in the Press section on the website.  There were many new cars turning up to find out what we were about and the Great North Air Ambulance joined us with a stall selling their merchandise.  Donations were given by the Cruisers and general public at the event and we managed to raise a total of £160.16.  A great many more people are now aware of the air ambulance and the vital role it plays in our rural county.

Once again we were lucky with the weather, with blue sky and warm sunshine during the day people were able to make sure their vehicles were looking their best and not a drop of rain throughout the night.

We had few members volunteering to help clear up the litter at the end of the night, so without the usual cruise wombles it made it a late finish.  We hope there will be more people willing to give a hand next time.

The overall feedback at the end of the night was good, with only one complaint after the event was finished.  After the Cruise a car decided to return to the location to see how much tyre squealing he could do, unfortunately the people who had give us permission to go ahead complained to the Police, whether this complaint stops us from getting back onto the car park again in the future we'll just have to wait and see.

Thank you to Carlisle City Council and for removing the barrier restriction on the night so we were able to access the car park, and thanks to the people who listened to our plans and had no major objections to us going ahead at Devonshire Walk Car Park.   Thank you to the Great North Air Ambulance for supporting us with our event and to everyone who turned up to help make our 18th Cruise such a success.

We look forward to CWC19 where ever it may be.
