CWC 20 was Cruise West Cumbria's 5th Anniversary Cruise, and saw us returning to Barrow on 28th February 2009 after a gap of over three years away from the town. Barrow had been busy while we were away, building us a nice new carpark outside B&Q, which meant that we no longer had to annoy the businesses on Hollywood Park. We are not sure why Hollywood park should be annoyed though, as on cruise night KFC, MDs and Pizza Hut pull in an entire weeks takings in a single night.

With plenty of press attention in the days before the cruise we knew there would be a good local turnout, and we were not disappointed. The Cumbrian convoys mixed in with convoys from Newcastle and the North East, Lancashire, Cheshire, Manchester and even as far away as Bridlington and Hull. At a rough count there were at least 370 cars which packed out the carpark. The press coverage also brought in a few classic cars which were a most welcome addition to the usual modified attendance and more than made up for the one or two unwelcome drunken chavs that unfortunately can't be avoided at a well publicised town centre cruise.

The press attending the cruise have published a few good reports that will be uploaded to the website in the coming days, and the North West Evening Mail have a report and a video on their website.

It's been a while since our last cruise and it was interesting to see how things have moved on in the last few years. Body kits have generally become more subtle, neons have almost become extinct, more bonnets than boots were open on the night and old skool is now more cool than it has ever been before. It looks like the credit crunch has yet to hit CWC, because the quality of the cars on show meant that a lot of time and cash must have been spent creating them.

Barrow-In-Furness Fire Services were at the cruise with a fire engine and a demonstration of the equipment which they use when rescuing people from car incidents. The Modified Nationals promo car was also at the cruise to remind everyone that winter is over and the show season is just around the corner.

At the event CWC collected money for the Great North Air Ambulance and we are pleased to say that we have beaten our previous record by raising a total of £176.32.

Thanks as always to the Cruise Wombles who helped to tidy up at the end of the night, we had a few less of our usual helpers, but the Barrow crowd pitched in and did their town proud; there aren't many big car parks in Barrow and if we don't tidy up after ourselves we will find more and more of them equipped with gates. We would like to thank everyone who came along last Saturday night to help us celebrate our success over the last 5 years and we hope for many more successful years to come. We look forward to seeing you all again at CWC21, which will be coming soon....
