CWC25 After 6 years absence from Hollywood Park in Barrow we were glad to return with our 25th Cruise. With rain expected we knew the turnout would be less than normal, but we made the most of the night. A lot of cars did turn up, and although the quantity was less than usual the quality certainly wasn't. Several American muscle cars turned up in addition to the usual crop of Jap and Euro modded cars, bringing in big crowds of people. Everyone had to brave the rain to see what was going on, and when there was a dry spell the bonnets and boots were opened to show off what they covered. Cumbria Fire Services, Police and Ambulance crews joined us to demonstrate a mock car accident, including a fatality, and the cutting and stabilising of a car to rescue a driver with possible spinal injuries. Their target audience for the display was aged 25 and under but they attracted a crowd of people from young children to older drivers. Thanks to the emergency services for the hard work they put into organising this event, it brings to light the realities of how easy things can go wrong on the road. Many people took part in the emergency services questionnaires and 6 winners were drawn from the hat by Cruise West Cumbria. We are currently waiting for the winners names so we can add them to this report. Well done everyone who won. Fail of the night is awarded to the North West Evening Mail Newspaper for getting the start time wrong by 2 hours, which resulted in cars turning up at 6pm instead of 8pm and some left long before the event even started. Press reports aren't necessarily a good thing! Over the last few weeks Radio Cumbria have shown great interest in what we are about. With a live report on Friday before the Cruise, a reporter at the Cruise talking to car owners about their cars and about CWC, and another live report on the radio on Monday after the Cruise. All our press reports can be found in the "Press" section on the website. Feedback from the Police, Fire Services, Ambulance Services and press on the night has been very positive, with no negative comments at all. Let's hope this results in a future trip back to Hollywood Park. We're working on CWC26 already so watch this space…….
