CWC8 was held in memory of a fellow CWC cruiser, Mark Harrison aged 24 who was
tragically killed in a motorbike accident on the evening of Monday 6th
September.
Mark, who lived in Maryport with his Fiancé Billie-Jo Twentyman, attended the
1st Cruise West Cumbria Cruise in Workington and also attended some of our other
Cruise West Cumbria Cruises. He was the proud owner of a MK2 Astra Turbo and had
a big passion for cars and bikes, our thoughts are with his family and friends.
There was a donation bucket at this event, which raised £57.70 which will be
donated to Victoria Cottage Hospital's League of Friends, in lieu of flowers, at
the request of the family.
Billie-Jo attended the cruise in the MK2 Astra Turbo along with Marks best
friend. They were touched by the donations received and the tribute flyer
and said thank you and how much they appreciated everything we have done for
them during this difficult time.
We thank
everyone for joining us on the night and for all the support the family has
received since this tragic event happened.
The showery forecast put a few people off coming to CWC8, but enough hardened
cruisers turned up to make the event as spectacular as ever, with as many as 500
cars almost filling the car park to capacity. Although the odd shower of rain
did dampen the mood, the long dry spells saw most people getting out of their
cars and joining in the crack.
The move back to the Lower Viaduct car park, the venue used for CWC4, was a
success as most people found the car park without any problems. The move was
necessary as the previous cruise at Devonshire Walk Car Park resulted in a
number of complaints about the noise from the flats opposite. It's a good job we
did move considering the noise when someone wires the boot installs of three
cars together! (see the Boot
install threesome pic).
The police Evo
was in attendance so I doubt anybody would have risked a high speed pursuit on
the night. A Cumbria Safety Cameras camera van also turned up as they previously
announced on our forum. They were there to give us a demo and answer any
questions, but unfortunately they parked on the road next to the car park so a
lot of people didn't even know they were there. Hopefully they will come back
next time so everyone can see what it's all about.
We didn't get
any aerial shots of the cruise, as the usual things to climb on were a tad too
slippery due to the rain. There were plenty of other photo opportunities though,
and the rain didn't take the shine off all the highly polished paint work.
The burger van
from CWC7 came back, and we also had our first cruise trade stand with
representative from Punctureseal
demonstrating his products and handing out leaflets.
Apologies to
the unlucky cruiser who put on a good show shooting flames from his exhaust only
to be invited to sit in an unmarked police Volvo and explain himself. His
backfires did make good video footage though, and the police let him off with a
warning. If you want to see the video, together with several others from the
night and the still photos that didn't make it onto the website, you will have
to buy the cruise VCD which will be available soon. Watch the forum for more
information.
