Donny 2007, our first show of the year and with 14 cars it was our biggest Donny stand so far. We knew it was going to be a great weekend, all we needed was the weather on our side. We arranged our convoy with Strathycruise, Fast and Modified, Argylecruise and Highland Cruise so we could meet at Forton Services and travel down together. As usual the journey down was full of events to keep us on our toes, with stash469 having to stop to sort out his boot and Scoobyturbo's R5 Turbo overheating. Eventually after a few hundred miles, Scoobyturbo, AKA Rory, had to make a pit stop. Despite needing a new alternator and battery he was still determined to make the show. He contacted a mate who brought the spares all the way from Dumfries, and fixed the car at the side of the road. The sun was blazing down when we got to the Show Ground and made our way to the new camping area. At first, like everyone else, we were told where we had to park and where we had to pitch up. Unfortunately this gave us little space and the cramped conditions were much to be desired. We weren't having it, so when the marshals backs were turned we nabbed some nearby space, spread out, pitched up and lit our BBQ's. Having made ourselves at home we soon discovered we had our own front seat entertainment, from the 'All night DJs' Those who were hotelling it made sure everyone was all stocked up with drink by visiting the local supermarket before coming down to join us at the campsite. This pleased Rory and Scott when they finally arrived having spent the last few hours making sure the R5 was roadworthy. Saturday morning was here before we knew it. After a good drinking session Friday night we were all up bright and early and ready to make our way to the show field and put on a good show. 2 hours and a very long queue later, thanks to more rubbish marshalling, we were finally made it into the show ground and it didn't take long to get everything set up. With the sun shining all day we enjoyed the show and made sure we had time to relax in the marquee with our own BBQ. Thanks to Az and Pogo we had enough food to feed an army. There was certainly plenty to see at the show both Saturday and Sunday, with the Autoglym Best In Britain Competition, the first official round of the European Drift Championship, Gumball 3000, two rounds of the Time Attack Challenge, plenty of trade stands and hundreds of club cars. Once again the IASCA competition saw one of the best sound challenges yet and we were lucky enough to get VIP permission to experience the BP Ultimate display from inside the sealed display room. After problems last year with dust there was a rumour that the Organisers for Donny 2007 were going to dampen down the roads, they did but towards the end of the weekend with hundreds of vehicles driving over the same roads into show ground the damp ground was very short lived and the dust returned once again. There was the opportunity for anyone wanting to experience track time with sessions available throughout both days. After winning a competition 16v ecotec and Riles had this opportunity for free. They weren't the fastest cars on the track but they showed more bottle than the cars left on the stand with their excuses about dodgy brakes and worn synchros. The track action wasn't without it's incidents though, luckily for CWC this was simply blown boost pipes and a leaky radiator. It was useful shakedown testing though, and the problems were fixed in minutes so everyone was able to drive their cars home. Not happy with just having his own car on the track Yogibear took a Ferrari 355 out for a run. The weekend went as quickly as it came but CWC put on a good show and everyone had a great time and is looking forward to Donny 2008. Pictures of the stand and camping pitch are below but there are plenty more pictures of the rest of the show on the forum

Panoramic view of the main club car area. There were at least as many cars again across the rest of the show, and hundreds of exhibitors stands too. |
