The Modified Nationals 2008 took place over the weekend of the 23rd to the 25th May 2008, and for the second year in a row was held at Peterborough Showground.

    CWC set off in force on Friday morning with a dozen or so cars in convoy from Forton services, and several more following on later in the day. We even had a few who were setting off at 5am on Saturday morning, to be sure of getting to the show when the gates opened at 9am. Quite a few of the CWC crowd camped at the show, with the rest making use of local hotels and mates in the area. Wherever they stayed, they all made it to the stand on Saturday morning in plenty of time to shine up their cars before the start of the show.

    The stand this year had cars on from all four corners of Cumbria, and a few from just outside the border. We had representation from Carlisle, Workington, Whitehaven, Kirkby Lonsdale, Barrow, Kendal, Penrith, and even Haltwhistle.

    It was a pretty good show, with a good mix of club and trade stands. Most people had a good time, even if (for the second year in a row) the weather spoilt the show. The sunshine on Saturday was nice, but the high winds meant that it was difficult to enjoy. We managed to strap down the gazebo on the stand well enough to stay up all day, but others at the show were not so lucky and several gazebos either took off or collapsed. On Sunday the heavens opened and it rained heavily all day. We spent most of the time under the gazebo sheltering from the rain. Tatty parked his car under the gazebo and opened up his boot install to provide a bit of entertainment. Luckily he had brought enough Top Gear DVDs to keep us all entertained while we waited for the rain to clear. A lot of show cars left early Sunday morning, but CWC stuck it out until lunchtime before giving up and heading home. Strangely enough, once we headed back up the M6, Cumbria was gloriously sunny!.
