On Saturday 20th November 2010 CWC headed off to
Teg Sport in Carnforth
for a rolling road day on their 4WD rollers. 17 cars turned up
to run, with only 16 making it onto the rollers and only 15
managing a power run. A Nissan GTR is fitted with a flat under
tray, so there is nothing to use to tie it to the rollers, and
removing the under tray would have taken too much time, so
unfortunately it couldn't run. We also had an automatic Scooby
that would not stay in a single gear, so couldn't produce a
power run.
In the cars that
did run there were a few surprises - a lot of happy faces and a
few owners left scratching their heads. A few faults were found
with cars running lean and with lumpy power delivery due to lack
of mapping. A couple of cars ran unmodified, and made near
enough book power so the rollers cant be too far from the truth.
With the number of cars running a few interesting comparisons
could be made - mild cams on a Pug 106 GTI don't necessarily net
you much extra power, and some paid a lot more than others to
get exactly the same remap on their VAG diesel engines
The rollers recorded wheel
torque, and the Dyno Dynamics software converted the figure to
flywheel horsepower (shown in the printouts below) using a
different in built conversion factor for each type of
transmission.
